Seesaw and Remote Learning

Dear Parents                                           

We are very saddened by the fact that schools have had to lockdown again. As you know, we have been directed by the Education Minister to move to Remote Learning and we appreciate the pressure this puts on our whole school community.

Our teachers have been busy planning, marking and uploading work using the Seesaw App. Should you have no access to a computer or device, please contact the school to discuss alternative arrangements.

With the help of my staff, I have put together a few points for you to bear in mind as we continue with Remote Learning. Unfortunately, this can never replace face to face teaching and we ask you only to try your best.

• Try to keep your child in a routine of logging onto Seesaw in the morning at 9.15am to receive work from his/her teacher.
• The parent/supervising adult should read through the instructions with his/her child to ensure the task at hand is understood.
• Aim to have work completed by 3pm each day, where possible.
• Work uploaded after 3pm may not be marked until the next day.
• Please bear in mind that class teachers will be providing and marking work for several different groupings in the class and this is much more time consuming to do remotely as opposed to during face to face teaching.
• Class teachers will also be engaged in the supervision of children of key workers in school as well as managing remote learning.
• When children are uploading work for marking, the photograph needs to be as clear as possible.
• Work uploaded needs to have a date and title (P3 and up).
• Teachers will endeavour to mark as much work as possible on Seesaw but may supply answers for parents to mark high volume pieces of work which children would normally mark themselves in class e.g. New Wave Maths and English (P5 and up).
• We would ask that parents check their child’s Seesaw account daily to ensure they are keeping up to date with the work provided.
• If your child’s teacher becomes unwell, he/she will not be able to provide activities and you will be notified.
• If your child becomes unwell, he/she should take time to rest and recover before resuming with Remote Learning and please let your child’s teacher know.
• It is important to ensure your child takes regular breaks every day and aims to get some exercise and fresh air.
